Roy Richard Browning, 86, of Canton passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late George C. and Nola Warren Browning. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Dewayne Kent Browning in 2021; sisters, Margaret Davis, Maxine Sorrells and Ruth Sorrells and brothers, Jay Browning, Harold Browning and Bruce Browning.
Roy proudly served in the 82nd Airborne division of the US Army. He served on the board of Farm Credit for 21 years and was a member of New Covenant Church for 32 years. Roy was a lifelong and enthusiastic fan of the Pisgah Bears.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Grogan Browning; daughter, Lynette Rae Browning (Richard Elingburg) of Canton; two sons, Richard Scott Browning (Sabrina) of Bethel and James Roy Browning (Devon) of Canton; daughter-in-law, Maria Browning of Canton; nine grandchildren, Levi (Mary), Amber (Bryan), Tom, Anna (Kevin), Tonya, Josh, Austin, Talon and Vincent and thirteen great-grandchildren, Carter, Kenley, Easton, Levie, Morgan, Xander, Paula, Sage, Carey, Jackson, Walker, Nora and Piper.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at New Covenant Church with Reverend Blake Stanbery and Reverend Dr. Frank Harvey. Interment will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 – 1:45 p.m.
