Roy Lee Cogburn

Roy Lee “Pete” Cogburn, 96, passed away at his home on Friday, May 10, 2024.   He was born on December 6, 1927, in Haywood County.
 
Pete had a passion for collecting clocks, gardening, and helping others.  He was known for his strong work ethic and his unwavering loyalty to Ford.  Pete retired as a mechanic from Ken Wilson Ford following 42 years of dedicated service.    
 
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Beulah Chambers Cogburn; his first wife Jean Jackson Cogburn; two sons Danny and David Cogburn; as well as two sisters.
 
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shirley Arrington Cogburn; his daughter, Cathy Cogburn Lee (Harold) of Clyde; step-son Keith Sheehan (Amy) of Salt Lake City, Utah; his brother Hubert "Shorty" Cogburn of Canton; three grandchildren Heather Lee (Kevin), Justin Lee, and Aiden Sheehan; as well as two great-grandchildren Karter and Danika Beck.
 
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Peter Constantian officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde.   The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery Maintenance Fund, in care of HomeTrust Bank in Clyde, 8583 Carolina Blvd, Clyde, NC   28721.

Pete will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace as his memories live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
