Canton – Roy Kiah West, 86, of the Beaverdam Community passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Asheville Specialty Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late George Mitchell and Mamie Brooks West. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jackie West, who died in 2013 and a grandson, Wesley Carpenter. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard. He retired from BASF as a facilities manager in 1993 with 32 years of service. Roy loved going to Lake Chatuge camping, fishing, and visiting with friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Elaine Downing (John) of Wilson, North Carolina; and Veronica Lynn Hales (Eddie) of Wilmington, North Carolina; a son, Mitch West of Canton; three grandchildren; Brayden West, Griffin Hales and Finley Hales and a great-granddaughter, Alexa Grace Carpenter; and his girlfriend, Brenda Parton.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial with follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
