Roy Overman, Jr.

Roy Lunsford "R. L." Overman, Jr. Canton – On Tuesday morning, August 18, 2015, R. L. Overman, age 74, left his earthly home to enter his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior. Born in the Crabtree Community of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Roy and Bertha Coleman Overman. R. L. loved his family, church family, and friends. Before his declining health, he enjoyed riding his four-wheeler through the mountains, going bear hunting with his friends, and attending his little country church, Meadow Grove Baptist. R. L. is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Cogburn Overman; one son, Kerwin Overman, and his wife, Janice, of Asheville; two daughters, Dorraine Lanning and her husband, Richard, and Bertha Overman and close friend, Steven, all of Canton; one sister, Faye Worley, of Asheville; one brother, James Overman, of Newport, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Maranda Lanning, Lauren Lanning Brown, and Becky Ramsey; and six great-grandchildren, Khloe, Adalynn, Henley, Christian, Savannah, and James. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Cruso United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the funeral home.
