Roy Rathbone

July 20, 1947 — January 8, 2015

Waynesville, Roy Lee Rathbone, age 67, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Farrady Banks and Hazel Stiles Rathbone. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Rathbone and Jim Rathbone. Roy was a United States Army veteran. He retired from NC Department of Transportation and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Roy enjoyed camping and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Kitina Houck and her husband, Paul, of Waynesville; a son, Rusty Rathbone and his wife, Donna, of Marshall, NC; a brother, Paul Rathbone and his wife, Donna, of Bessemer City, NC; four grandchildren, Savannah Rathbone, Shelby Rathbone, Nicole Houck, and Brandon Houck and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Millard Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Redmond Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 641 Liberty Church Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
