Roy Ross, Jr.

Waynesville, Roy H. Ross, Jr., age 87, of the Jonathan Creek Community, was surrounded by his family at his residence on Saturday, November 29, 2014 when he entered into the loving arms of his heavenly Father after a short period of declining health. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Roy Hobert Ross and Amanda Henson Ross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Wayne Ross; a grandson, Wesley C. Trull; three sisters, Geneva R. Smart, Clara R. Swanger and Louise R. Worley; and three brothers, Brown W. Ross, Calvin Ben Ross and Taylor M. Ross. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and later became a very well-respected farmer and business man known throughout Haywood County and beyond. He will be remembered for being a leader in all aspects of his life, from within his own family, to the farming industry and to the community as a whole. Roy cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and will be deeply missed by many. Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne Caldwell Ross; two daughters, Shirley R. Huntley and her husband, Ed, of Hendersonville and Barbara R. Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Mills River; a son, H. Dean Ross and his wife Cindy, of Waynesville; two sisters, Betsy R. Buckner of Etowah and Ruby R. Boyd and her husband, Joe, of Waynesville; a brother, Ralph Dean Ross and his wife, Barbara, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Hal M Trull (Maryann) of Waynesville, Emily Anne Jones (Josh) of Clemmons, Kelly E. Stepp (Dusty) of Hendersonville, Andrew Arnold Ross and Ronnie Dean Ross of Waynesville; ten great grandchildren, Hunter Wesley Trull, Hali Ann Trull, Jackson Bennett Stepp, Emerson Caldwell Stepp, Landon Pierce Jones, Preston Lane Jones, Hudson Grey Jones, Matilda Delaney Ross, Harrison David Ross and Vanessa Joan Ross; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Tout officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Haywood County and all others involved in helping to provide special care of our loved one.
