Royce Howell

Canton, Royce Lee Howell, age 81, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Royce was born and grew up in Yancey County; had resided in Haywood County since 1966. He was the son of the late Arthur Arcemus and Bonnie Renfro Howell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce King Howell, who died in 2011; and three brothers, Phillip, Ward and Robert Howell. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. Royce was a self-made business owner of Howell's Young Mens Shop in Canton. He was an avid golfer and will be remembered for his outgoing spirit. Royce loved being with his friends and family and adored his grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, Randal Lee Howell and his wife, Angie, of Canton and Douglas Lynn Howell and his wife, Krys, of Pensacola, Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth Sams of Mars Hill, NC; and Peggy Brinkley of Bakersville, NC; and three grandchildren, Cameron Howell and his wife, Sarah, of Canton, Logan and Madison Howell of Pensacola, Florida; a great-granddaughter on the way; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Royce's special caregivers, Sandra Brock, Pat Edwards and Marcy Coman Scott for their loving care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Matt Pruitt officiating Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Yancey County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
