Ruby Ashe

Ruby Marie Ashe, age 92, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Humphries Gant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Ashe, who died in 1987; several brothers; a sister, a son, Tommy Ashe, and a granddaughter, Angela Renee Schrader. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Ruby enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and traveling. She is survived by three sons, David Ashe and his wife, Doris, of Candler, Scott Ashe and his wife, Sherry, Hugh "Kayo" Ashe and his wife, Rose, all of Canton; two daughters, Jeanette Poston of Bethel and Shirley Clark of Canton; a brother, Theodore Gant and his wife, Martha, of Canton; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Shirley Clark. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
