Ruby Brooks

"Loved By All" Canton – Ruby Yates Brooks, age 82, in the early morning of Tuesday, January 05, 2016, Ruby went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father and the friends and family who had went before her. Ruby was born in Clay County to the late Honea Alfred and Ethel Jane Cunningham Yates. Along with her family, she moved to Haywood County as a young girl and made it her home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Miller, Gerald Wood, and Weldon "Bud" Brooks, who died in 2007; a son, Jeffrey Yates Brooks; and two brothers, Paul Kenneth and Jerry Yates. Ruby was a wonderful person who treated everyone with love and took great joy in making people laugh. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, were the loves of her life. Ruby was a terrific gardener and enjoyed sharing her bountiful harvest with many. She was the manager of the Canton Cato store for 18 years and was consistently recognized, year after year, for being tops in sales and loss prevention. Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Mike Wood and his wife, Donna, Weldon Steven Brooks and his wife, Patricia "Sissy", and Alan Brooks and his wife, Mary, all of Canton; two sisters, Carolyn Sutton and Betty Henderson, both of Canton; three brothers, Eugene Yates and his wife, Tiny, Horace Yates and his wife, Gail, all of Canton, Charles Yates of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Lauren Lawson (Caleb), Jessica Garnes, Leia Wood, Brittany Brooks and Taylor Brooks (Tyler Singleton); one great-granddaughter, Riley Patterson; Janice Walker and her daughter, Brittany Darr, whom Ruby loved dearly. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dan Page officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A- Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Mom, you will be greatly missed and we look forward to the day we will see you again!
