Ruby Carver

May 20, 1930 — April 9, 2008

Asheville, Ruby Louise Quakenbush Carver, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Glenwood and Thelma Creasman Quakenbush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Rex Quakenbush. She was a waitress for 22 years at Teague's Soda Shop in Asheville. She was a very active member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. Ruby loved her church and had previously served as choir director. She loved life to the fullest always telling jokes and making people smile. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Fred Russell Carver; one daughter, Sherri O'Kelley and her husband, Patrick, of Candler; two grandchildren, Hunter and Alexandra O'Kelley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Marty Connor and Reverend Jonathan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Erwin Hills Baptist Church, 280 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville, NC 28806.
