Waynesville, Ruby Brannen Cunningham, age 98, died at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. A native of Bulloch County, Georgia, she was the youngest daughter of eleven children of the late Edmond Alexander and Julia Annabelle Franklin Brannen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William S. "Bill" Cunningham, who died in 2002. She was a former schoolteacher having graduated from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, GA. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of WMU. She was very active in the March of Dimes and was a woodcarving artist. She is survived by two sons, Randy Cunningham and his wife, Linda, of Lake Junaluska and David Cunningham and his wife, Claire, of Oakland, CA; four grandchildren, Iris Ruby Cunningham, Ada Karlstrand and her husband, Tim, Asheley Swanger and her husband, Stephen, and Brannen Cunningham and his wife, Jennifer; and one great granddaughter, Sylvienne Karlstrand. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the church.
