Ruby Hough

March 5, 1925 — May 15, 2010

Waynesville, Ruby Brannon Hough, age 85, joined her sweetheart, Walter G. Hough, in eternal rest on May 15, 2010 at her home in Maggie Valley. Born on March 5, 1925 in LaGrange, Georgia, she and her husband made their home and raised their four children in both Montana and North Carolina. She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Louise "Lou" Ball, Glenda Faye Yarbrough and her husband, George, of Buckeye, Arizona, Susan Marie Richardson and husband, Michael, of Charlotte, North Carolina and one son, George James Hough of Memphis, Tennessee. Ruby was blessed with eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Sally Spivey of Morehead, Georgia and Jeannette Dunn and her husband, Alfred, of Alabama. Ruby had many special gifts, cooking, baking, sewing, and homemaking. But, perhaps, her most lasting legacy is the care she gave to others. From a young girl as the oldest of seven, she raised her brothers and sisters and continued to care for them even as adults when they needed her. She tended to her husband's parents as they aged as well as her own. She was always there for extended family as well as friends. Everyone turned to Ruby and her Wally. Ruby was bigger than life. She lived hard and played hard, whether tending t her family or playing golf or bingo. She did everything with passion. She knew only two speeds, go and fast. Beneath her sometimes rough/tough exterior laid a most giving heart, generous with her time and her knowledge of living. Her beautiful smile, accented with her sparkling blue eyes, brought smiles to countless others. Although she fancied herself "The General" with her family and friends, Ruby had a charm, a charisma that was impossible to resist. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Ruby requested that memorials be sent to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
