Ruby Johnson

March 15, 1926 — March 2, 2011

Waynesville, Ruby Lee Johnson, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella Moore Willis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John "Speedy" Williams, who died in 1980; a son, John Edward Williams, who died in 1988; and two sisters, Louise Brown and Ora Lee Pressley. Ruby was employed with Skyland Industries and Buster Brown in Sylva as a sewing machine operator and was a member of Balsam Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Andy Hatcher and his wife, Helen, of Mussel Shoals, Alabama, Mauri Williams and his special friend, Dot Volner, of Waynesville and Lee Williams and his wife, Sheila, of Waynesville; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Balsam Baptist Church with Reverend Lewis Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Balsam Baptist Church, P.O. Box 280, Balsam, NC 28707.
