Ruby King

Ruby King, age 88, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late Fred Lee and Florence Hyatt Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harvey King, who died in 1991; two sisters, Frankie Hyde and Hazel Brooks; one brother, Richard Buchanan; and a grandson, Cliff Palen. She was a member of Morning Star United Methodist church where she was very active in the United Methodist Women and in many other activities of the church. She is survived by two sons, Thomas King and his wife, Rebecca, of Thomasville, and Stanley King of Canton; one daughter, Henrietta Proffitt and her husband, Carrol, of Newport, TN; one sister, Ila Mae Moore of Canton; two grandchildren, Geri Ramsey of Maggie Valley, and Rob Beck of Thomasville; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Shane, and Tom Palen; and one great-great-grandchild, Dillon Isaac Palen. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Untied Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
