Ruby Roberts

Waynesville, Ruby Barrett Roberts, age 93, joyfully left this earthly home on Sunday, June 15, 2008 to spend eternity in her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to join her loving husband of 67 years, Maurice C. Roberts, who passed away on December 18, 2005. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Emma Banks Barrett; two sisters, Gertie DeWeese and Ollie Stamey; three brothers, Jim, Arthur, and Columbus Barrett. Ruby worked a few years for Champion Papers before her marriage and then fine tuned her homemaking skills and enjoyed caring for her husband and daughter. She was a devoted Christian who never liked to miss church and taught nine and ten-year-old girls in Sunday school when she and Maurice lived in Newport News, Virginia. They retired to their hometown of Canton in 1974, happy to rejoin their family and friends from childhood. Maurice and Ruby were members of Calvary Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Canton, where she spent many happy years of fellowship with the ladies of the Berean Sunday School Class. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, a loving grandmother, a fine seamstress, and a fabulous cook and baker. She is survived by one daughter, Sue R. Booker and her husband, Don, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Allison Galbraith and her husband, Brad, of Asheville and Keith Booker and his wife, Brenda, of Atlanta; and four great grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, and Jack Galbraith and Savannah Booker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Jack B. Sammons officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on the Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the services at the funeral home.
