Rubye Harkins

"Loving Mother & Grandmother" Canton, Rubye Marie Huskey Harkins, age 90, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Anderson and Vernia Burnette Huskey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Paul Harkins; a sister, Jennie Mills; a nephew, Gary Huskey; and a great-nephew, Cory Huskey. She is survived by one daughter, Hilda Grace Harkins Keener and husband, Larry, of Canton; one sister, Emma Mashburn and husband, J.L., of Candler; two brothers, Bill Huskey and wife, Louise, of Canton and Darrel Huskey and wife, Vicki, of Concord, N.C.; two grandchildren, Myra Watson and husband, Craig, of Clyde, and Sarah Keener, of Raleigh; and two great-granddaughters, Molly Corinne and Elizabeth Ruby (Libby) Watson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church "Sound Fund," 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 and The Homestead, 127 Sunset Ridge, Clyde, NC 28721.
