Rubye Thomas

December 24, 1920 — September 14, 2015

Waynesville, Rubye Lee Greene Thomas, age 94, formerly of Wild Cherry Drive, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center. Rubye was a native of Haywood County. She spent most of her life in Swain County and Lake Junaluska. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Mary Belle Messer Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Marson Thomas, who passed away in 1984; sisters, Nancy Belle Reynolds, Martha Farley, Thelma Phillips and Reva McClure; brothers, Fred and Earl Greene; and a son-in-law, Lloyd Ball. Rubye was a devout Christian, prayer warrior and the most wonderful mother and grandmother. Her hands were never idle as she spent many hours quilting and crocheting for her family and friends and has won many blue ribbons. She was a member of the Church of God. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Emma Phillips, and her husband, Zeb, of Burnsville, NC, Joan Ball of Gastonia, NC and Wanda Parkins, and her husband, Ronnie, of Clyde; a sister, Pearl Riggins of Canton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her best friend and roommate, Connie Price. A graveside service will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Gideon International West Camp, P.O.
