Rufus Green

March 1, 1928 — April 29, 2004

Waynesville-Rufus "Riley" Green, age 76, of 104 Reece Road, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Mission St. Joseph Health Care System. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Claude William and Pearl James Green. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Roy, Troy, Billy, Berney, and Mark Green; and two sisters, Ethel Green and Betty Wyatt. He was employed by Lea Industries as a machinist for 34 years before his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Allen's Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilsie Reece Green; two sons, Donald Green, and his wife, Geraldine, and Carl Green, both of Waynesville; three sisters, Maye Howell, Katherine Mintz, and Jencie Lee of Waynesville; one brother, Harrison Green, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Greg Price, Carla Worley, Amanda Gentry, and Bridget Williams; and four great grandchildren, Kimberly, Killan, Kaitlynn, and Amy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Tim Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be Jeramy Worley, David Williams, Brian Gentry, Danalee Green, Kenneth Green, and Phil Messer. Memorials may be given to Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 931, Waynesville, NC 28786.
