"Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather" Canton – Rufus Carroll Kinsland, 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late John Hascue and Lois Evans Kinsland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy K. Pruett. Carroll was a man with many talents and special qualities. He had a devoted work ethic and was fiercely dedicated to his work career of 41 years with CP&L, all the while keeping up the family farm. An avid outdoorsman, Carroll enjoyed spending time hunting and being out in nature. Carroll loved his family deeply with all his heart and will be remembered for caring and helping those around him. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II and attended Plains United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Mann Kinsland; one son, Joseph Kinsland and wife, Denise, of Canton; a brother, John S. Kinsland of Clyde; two grandchildren, Luke and Lyndsey Kinsland; and one step-grandson, David Herndon and great-granddaughter, Ellie Herndon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Zach Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
