Rupert Hargette

Waynesville-Rupert H. Hargette, age 78, of Love Lane, died Friday, August 15, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was a native of Union County, NC and was the son of the late Lindsey and Ara Snyder Hargette.

He was a graduate of Catawba College. He was employed by the US government with the Internal Revenue Service for 28 years. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was a former alderman with the Town of Waynesville.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joy Woody Hargette; two sons, John Woody Hargette of Waxhaw, NC and Paul Hudson Hargette of Greenville, SC; one brother, Billy M. Hargette of Asheville; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2003 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The Reverend Larry Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Cullowhee Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the services, at the funeral home.

The pallbearers will be Mike Erwin, Charles Cook, M. R. Whisenhunt, Terry Buelow, A. Q. Cook, and Jess McClure.

Frank Melton, B. L. Church, Bob Breese, Pete Smith, Dan Brundige, and Bob Allen will serve as honorary pallbearers.
