Russel Hyson, Jr.

Waynesville, Russel P. Hyson, Jr., age 55, died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Millville, New Jersey, he had resided in Waynesville for the past 20 years. He was the son of Yvonne Heaxt and the late Russel P. Hyson, Sr. He was also preceded in death by a son, Derek Hyson; a sister, Yvonne Hyson; and his paternal great grandmother, who was a full blooded Piaute Indian. He was a US Army veteran and a welder by trade working in construction. Russel enjoyed fishing, camping, growing houseplants, and was an expert woodworker. He was a member of Heislerville United Methodist Church in New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elizabeth Hyson, of New Jersey; two sons, Jayme Hyson and Russel Hyson, III, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Dani Lawson and Deborah Farmer, of South Carolina; two brothers, Charles and Michael Hyson, of Waynesville; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by the children of the late Sherry Marsh, Karen, Billy and Keisha Gaskill, and their 13 children; one great grandchild; and brother and sister in Christ, Randy and Wanda Janes. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in the Venue at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Leyton Alan Mears and Randy Janes officiating.
