Russell Buckner

Canton-Russell Garfield Buckner, age 84, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late P. A. and Daisy Vahaun Buckner. He retired from Champion International and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran in Company C of the 44th Engineer C Battalion in World War II serving during the European Theater and received the purple heart.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the WNC State Veteran Cemetery in Black Mountain military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veteran Council.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, Sound and Video System, 3258 Pisgah Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
