Ruth Stamey

Candler - Ruth Beatrice Plemmons Stamey of Youngs Drive died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at John F. Keever Solace Center, in Asheville. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Bertie Price Plemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Guy Stamey, who died in 2002 and her four brothers, Ralph, Craig, Harry and Clyde Plemmons. Ruth was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Her career as an LPN included working at Mission Hospital and as a nurse for the late Dr. Vollmer. She and her husband formerly owned and operated Stamey's Flower Shop. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Smathers of Canton and Earlene Holbrook and her husband, Bill, of Bethel; one son, Gerald Stamey and his wife, Carolyn, of Candler; six grandchildren, Mary Holbrook, Susan Blanton, Michael Stamey, Scout Holbrook, David Stamey and Heather Smathers; four great-grandchildren, and two special caregivers, Anita Hannah and Nancy Holley. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David and Michael Stamey, Scout Holbrook, Eric, Ricky and Dr. Gregory Plemmons, Lantz Blanton, and Larry Parker.
