Ruth Rogers

Waynesville, Ruth Coffey Rogers, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Swain County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County, and was the daughter of the late Rufus Gamewell and Minnie Welch Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel T. Rogers, who died in 1981; three brothers, Roby E. and R.G. Coffey and 3-year-old, J.C. Coffey and two sisters, Helene and Mabel Coffey. Ruth was a graduate of Carson Newman College and was an elementary school teacher. She was former owner and operator of Waynesville Hardware and a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by one brother, Lyle W. Coffey and his wife, Eleanor, of Waynesville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Clayton and Steve Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801.
