Maggie Valley-Ruth Lewis Cogdill, age 87, died on Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Brian Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mattie Carpenter Lewis. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Hugh Lewis, and one great grandson, Steven Daniel Rich. She was an employee of Dayco for 38 years and worked in the Quality Control Department, retiring in 1979. Ruth loved her job at Dayco and the many friends she worked with. Ruth was of the Baptist Faith, loved helping people, and always thought of others before herself. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rich of Maggie Valley; six sisters, Frances Heller of Salem, NJ, Betty Warfle of Bridgeton, NJ, Dorothy Rhodes and Helen Holt, both of Asheville, and Barbara Shidner and Mattie Moose, both of Gaffney, SC; four brothers, Jeff Lewis of Black Mountain, NC, Bill Lewis, of Warner Robins, GA, Arthur Lewis, Jr. of Pennsville, NJ, and Jack Lewis of Maggie Valley; 2 granddaughters, Phyllis McClure of Waynesville and Patsy Browning and her husband, Roger, of Lake Junaluska and 2 grandsons, Tony Rich and his wife, Billie, of Waynesville and Steve Rich and his wife, Linda, of Maggie Valley; 14 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. on October 13, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services, and at other times, the family will be at the home of Steve and Linda Rich of Maggie Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to charity of one's choice in Ruth's memory.
