Asheville, Ruth Hedrick Davis, age 98, of the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. A native of Maryville, Tennessee and former resident of Richmond, Virginia and Kinston, North Carolina, she had resided in Asheville for the past 15 years. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Oscar Edward Hedrick and Sammie Scott Hedrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Flournoy C. Bowles and her second husband, T. Pittman Davis. Ruth was a graduate of St. Margaret's School in Tappahanock, Virginia, and attended the University of Louisville. She loved the Episcopal Church, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed arranging her flowers. She loved her family dearly, and her friends were very special to her. She is survived by two daughters, Susan B. Arnall and her husband, Hamilton, of Newnan, Georgia, and Ruth B. Carson and her husband, Phil, of Asheville; two granddaughters, Ruth Lanier and her husband, Reese, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Marjorie Redding and her husband, David, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and five great grandchildren, Elizabeth Cole Lanier, John Reese Lanier, III, Caroline Carson Redding, Virginia Ruth Redding, and Sarah Scott Redding. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Saint Giles Episcopal Church with Reverend Morgan Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
