Ruth Francis

Waynesville, Ruth Deitz Francis, 88, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Pisgah Manor Healthcare. A native of Jackson County, she had resided in Haywood County for the past 35 years. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Dessie Cogdill Deitz and was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Francis, who died in 2014 and one brother, Ray Deitz. Ruth was employed as a cashier at Winn-Dixie, retiring with 30-years service and was a member of the Waynesville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Ruth is survived by her step-son, James Francis, Jr. of Big Canoe, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Queen, of Candler and Ruby Shoemaker and her husband, Harold, of Asheville; as well as many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and one great-grand-niece, who all loved her very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ed Couser and Reverend Tim Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
