Ruth Harkins

Ruth Cothran Harkins, age 92, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Olvie Veal Cothran. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Harkins, who died in 1998; a sister, Geneva Hyde; and a brother, Billy Cothran. Ruth was a member of First United Methodist of Canton. She is survived by a son, Michael Harkins and his wife, Carol, of Canton; six sisters-in-law, Charlotte Cothran, Thomasine Harkins, Rubye Harkins, Margaret Burris, Joyce Harkins, and Adele Harkins; two grandchildren, Travis Harkins and his wife, Jennifer, and Spencer Harkins; and a great-granddaughter, Khloe Harkins. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Clay J. Morgan and Reverend Dustin James officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
