Ruth Hawkins

"Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother" Clyde – Ruth Helen Fowler Hawkins, 92, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her home which she loved. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Melvin and Azalea Rogers Fowler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene P. Hawkins, who passed away in 2000; twin brother, Rufus Fowler; three sisters, Lucille Rathbone, Valene Chambers, and Jean Jones; one nephew, Stephen Allelo; and one son-in-law, Carroll Mease. Ruth loved to crochet, make quilts, work outside in the yard and flowers, and enjoyed doing word puzzle books. She was very active and a member of Clyde Wesleyan Church. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Hawkins Mease, Carolyn Hawkins Henderson and husband, (Estol), and Dinah Hawkins Smith, all of Clyde; three sisters, Mabel Allelo of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Doris Hightower and husband, (J.T.), of Clyde, and Joyce Henderson of Morganton; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Trantham and husband, (Lou), of Asheville; three grandchildren, Krista Leatherman and husband, (Greg), Kim Hoffman and husband, (Steve), and Michael Todd Smith and wife,(Kelly); six great-grandchildren, Blake Carter and husband, (Brian), Brandon Hemingway, Christopher Setzer, Tyler and Makenzie Smith and Kirsten Heavner and husband, Mark; and two great-great-grandchildren, Makayla and Bentley. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde with the Reverend Eddie Clayton officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
