Ruth Jenkins

April 8, 1922 — June 5, 2016

Stevens Creek Community, Ruth Rathbone Jenkins, age 94, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Haywood County she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Florence Price Rathbone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Jenkins who died in 1989; four brothers; one sister; and one grandson. Ruth was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed weaving baskets, quilting, gardening and canning. Ruth is survived by three daughters, Barbara Mills, and her husband, Ralph, of Waynesville, Margaret Russell, of Clyde and Carolyn Blevins, and her husband, Kevin, of Robbinsville; two sons, Joe Jenkins, of Waynesville and Bill Jenkins, and a special friend Deirdre McLoive, of Clyde; one sister, Faye McElroy, of Waynesville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4035 White Oak Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
