Ruth Owenby

Canton- Ruth Ann Owenby - age 67, of Abbott Road died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Memorial Mission Hospital. She was a native of Buncombe County but had resided in Haywood County for a number of years. She was a daughter of Grace Estelle Foster Messer and the late John Troy Messer. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Weaver Cleo Owenby who died in 1986. Ruth had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and was an avid reader and loved watching western films. She was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Danny K. Owenby and his wife, Carol, of Canton; one sister, Jennie Lou Davis, of Canton; three brothers, James "Bubby" Messer and his wife, Mary, Troy Messer and his wife, Marsha, all of Asheville, and Jack Messer, of Columbia, SC and three grandchildren, Amber and Autumn Jones, and Cierra Owenby. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow in Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Ruth's residence.
