Ruth Parker

October 9, 1928 — July 27, 2016

Waynesville, Ruth Ann Young Parker, 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at her residence surrounded by family. Ruth was born in Haywood County, daughter of the late William and Maude Norris Young and was also preceded in death by three sisters. She was employed as a CNA at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. Ruth was a woman of many talents and gifts. She was the matriarch of her family and her prized possessions were family members, whom she loved dearly. Ruth was a true servant of the Lord and a member of New Hope Church of God. Her favorite pastime was attending Pickin' in the Park events and listening to gospel music. She also enjoyed canning, crocheting and quilting as well as her prized dahlia garden. Ruth is survived by her husband of 73 years, Charles Parker; two daughters, Gloria Nelms of Orange Park, Florida and Shelia Parker Mathis (Darrell) of Waynesville; two sons, Roger Parker (Karen Haney) of Clyde and Tommy Parker (Michelle) of Canton; a sister, Betty Dyer (J.C.) of Enka; two brothers, Reverend J.L. Young (Billie) of Mt. Airy and Charles Young (Pat) of Greer, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Brian Nelms, Deirdre Simmons, Dawn Brugh, Kevin Nelms, Shannon Parker, Brad Riggins, Brandy Burnette Ball, and Brooke Burnette Parrott; 27 great-grandchildren, Whitney, Katlin, Amanda, Alisa, Autumn, Madison, Shane, Patra, Caitlin, Sidney, Emma, Cole, Cooper, Murphey, Nathan, Marissa, Julia, Allyson, Sheyln and Logan; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at New Hope Church of God with Reverend Alan Greene and Reverend Bobby Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian and Kevin Nelms, Steve Parrott, Jason Ball, Will Jones and Marion Russell. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to New Hope Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 635, Waynesville, NC 28786.
