Ruth Porter

"Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother"

Waynesville, Ruth Wright Porter, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center.

Born at the Sunburst Logging Camp, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mabel Sherrill Wright. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Porter, who died in 1987; stepson, Fred Porter; two brothers, Wayne Wright and Clifford Jr. Wright; two sisters, Juanita Medford and Virginia Galloway. Ruth was employed by Wellco and was a co-owner of Charlie's Restaurant with her husband from 1972 until 1985. She was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church and enjoyed working and loving on her Great-Grandson, Jonathan.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Debbie Shook and her husband, Kim, of Waynesville; stepson, Bill Porter, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Florida; brother, Harry Lee Wright, and his wife, Sue, of Waynesville; granddaughter, Cassie Hensley; great-grandson, Jonathan Hensley; and several nieces and nephews who were very special to her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
