Ruth Helen Blalock Rogers, 94, passed away Thursday July 17, 2014, at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh, NC. She was a resident of Haywood County all her life and a lifelong member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church where she was very active until she moved to Raleigh in 2004. Ruth was the wife of S.L. Rogers and they celebrated 63 years together until his death in 2003. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, sang in the church choir and enjoyed serving in the United Methodist Women in her member church and district offices. Mrs. Rogers was pleased to use her talent as a hairdresser for many years to help her friends and family look their best. She was a wonderful cook and appreciated the bounty of the garden that her husband raised each year in Clyde. She loved living in the mountains and the simple joys of each day. One of her favorite Bible verses was Psalms 121:1-2, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." After losing her home in a hurricane in 2004, she relocated to Raleigh to be near her daughter and found new friends and activities at her new home, The Gardens of Wakefield. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed. The way she lived her life with unwavering faith in God will be her legacy. Mrs. Rogers is survived by her son, Mike and wife, Maxene, of Bluffton, SC: daughter, Belinda Haynes and husband, Doug, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jim Haynes and wife, Gay, of Raleigh, NC; Nancy Moseley and husband, Chip, of Louisburg, NC; Michele Thatcher and husband, Mike, of Plano TX and Melanie Bell and husband, Mike, of Dallas, TX and twelve great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mamie Blalock; five brothers, Howell, Ayward, Quenton, Fred and Ben Blalock and two sisters, Ola Robinson and Hazel Miller. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, July 21, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Gaddy and Rev. Oscar Dowdle officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the The Horizon at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde, N.C.
