Ruth Stamey

Ruth Cassida Stamey, age 71, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Park Ridge Health in Hendersonville. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Winfield and Bonnie Hicks Cassida. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Alexander Cassida. She served as secretary for the Masonic Temple for the Scottish Rites for several years. She was employed with Continental Teves for 16 years and worked as a bookkeeper for Stamey Trucking. Ruth enjoyed working in her flower garden, playing the piano, sewing, canning vegetables, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Carl Ray Stamey; daughter, Debra Williams and her husband, Bill, of Pisgah Forest; a son, Lincoln Lyle Lance of Fairview; three daughters, Vickey Browning of Harlan, Kentucky, Freda Swanger and her husband, Buz, of Canton, and Marlene Capps and her husband, Dean, of Canton; two sisters, Jane Cassida Conner of Asheville and Linda Kernick of Candler; a sister-in-law, Edris Cassida of Orlanda, Florida; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her four-legged best friends, Rambo, Angel, and Anna. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
