Ruth Swanger

Waynesville, Ruth Elizabeth Swanger, age 88, died on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Sarah Jane Howell Boone. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Butler Wiley Swanger; a daughter, Betty Jane Powell; a sister, Rose Swanger; and two brothers, Lum and Arthur Boone. She was employed as a cafeteria worker by the Haywood County School System and she also was employed at the Junaluska Assembly during summer months. Ruth loved cooking for her family, going to flea markets, and playing bingo at Autumn Care. She was a loving Christian mother to all her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by one daughter, Shirley James and her husband, Freddie; one son, Bobby Swanger and his wife, Marie, all of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Freddie Dean James and his wife, Maria, Jeff James and his wife, Keela, Laura Hart, Stephen Swanger and his wife, Ashley, and Scott Powell and his wife, Tina; five great grandchildren, Tori James, Luke Swanger, Lauren and Brittany Powell, and Jessica Hart; and one great-great granddaughter, Makenzie Kite; and special nephews, Kenneth and Roger Boone. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Eddie Deitz and Reverend Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the services.
