Waynesville, Ruth Stepp Jones, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at her residence.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late George Henry and Elsie Maude Inman Stepp. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howard Jones, who died in 2000; children, Jess Randy Clark and Elsie Mullins; three sisters, Thelma, Mary and Lucille; two brothers, James and David Stepp; two grandchildren Benji and Alex Clark; and a special niece, Deborah Williams. Ruth was affectionally known as "Granny Darlin" by all. She retired from Champion International after 13 years of service in 1997. Ruth enjoyed playing rummy, going to the beach, spending time with her children and grandchildren, taking naps with her Noah Darlin, and waiting on baby Presley.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Shirley Phillips (Hugh), of Waynesville; son Henry Clark (Thelma), of Mullins, South Carolina; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews that were like her own children.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Phillip Wyatt and Pastor Linda Query officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
The care of Mrs. Jones has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
