S. Rogers

Clyde-Samuel L. Rogers, age 83, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Samuel and Allie Summers Rogers and was preceded in death by his sister Bill Morgan. Mr. Rogers retired from Champion International and was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and later retired from the N.C. National Guard. In addition to his military service, Mr. Rogers also served as the mayor of Clyde for 26 years, Alderman on the Clyde City Council, representative on the Clyde School Board and member of the Clyde Masonic Lodge #453 AF & AM for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Helen Blalock Rogers, one daughter and her husband, Belinda and Doug Haynes of Raleigh, one son and his wife, Mike and Maxine Rogers of Hilton Head, SC, three sisters, Betty Lee of Texas, Anna Belle Morris of Virginia, Mary Hawkins of Alabama, four brothers, Richard, Hubert and Frank Rogers, all of Florida and Leonard Rogers of Mars Hill, 4 grandchildren; Michele Thatcher of Plano, TX, Jim Haynes of Apex, NC, Melanie Bell of Frisco, TX, Nancy Moseley of Wake Forest, NC and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003 at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Christopher Westmoreland and Reverend Dr. W. T. Medlin, Jr. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Chambers, Ray Rhinehart, Tim Bramlett, Harry Stamey, Roger Morgan and Jimmy Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Leatherwood, Frank Haynes, Arthur Stamey, Marvin Jones and members of the Clyde Masonic Lodge.
