SALLIE ''NANNY'' GUNTER

Waynesville-Sallie Massie Gunter, age 92, of 1375 Camp Branch Road, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Sewell Medford and Mary McNabb Massie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lowery Gunter who died in 2000; a daughter, Juanita Conner Ballard; a sister, Kate Massie; four brothers, Boague, Tom, Vaughn, and Dick Massie; and a great granddaughter. She was employed by Wellco for 25 years as a lacer. She attended Camp Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Wilma Rogers and Nina Parrott and her husband, Bill, both of Waynesville; one son, Halldean ''Bud'' Conner, of Waynesville; and one sister, Evelyn Williams of Clyde; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Al Masiello officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 Friday, prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 and Autumn Care, 360 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
