Sam James

May 1, 1926 — March 25, 2004

Waynesville-Sam James, age 77, of Hickory, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Louis and Annie Mae Parks James. He was a native of Haywood County having resided in Catawba County since 1969. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Levi and Robert James, and by a sister, Ethel Ferguson. He was a self-employed logger.

He is survived by his wife, Isabella Brown; his daughter, Patricia Arteaga of Hildebran; three sons, Charles Arthur James and his wife, Beverly Sue of Hickory, Jerry Wayne James and his wife, Shirley, and Joseph William James and his wife, Lorene, both of Conover; two sisters, Dorothy Kidd and Liza Surrett, both of Waynesville; four brothers, Homer James of Clyde, Kenneth James of Hickory, Frank and Jess James, both of Lynchburg, VA; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. The Reverend Jarvis Teague will officiate. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the funeral home.
