Clyde - Nyland Samuel "Sam" Watkins, 50, passed away on September 18, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Harry Nyland Watkins and Nita Sue Dail and was preceded in death by his sister, Shana Annette Dail Hoyle. He was employed with Evergreen Packaging for 10 years. Sam was a very outgoing person, with a kind heart and loving soul. He carried a passion for playing music and song writing. He learned to play the guitar when he was twelve years old, and that led him to learn to also play the piano, keyboards and bass guitar. Sam had an amazing talent and truly enjoyed his music, especially when playing music with his friends and loved ones. He also enjoyed going camping, boating and fishing with his wife and son. He never met a stranger and was loved by so many because of his love for others. The enjoyment he got from life was spending time with his friends and family, which was not measurable. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Terri Stevens Watkins; a son, Matthew Harper of Clyde; granddaughter, Makenna Elyse Williams; a sister, Cathy Suttles of Hendersonville; a brother, Jimmy Inman of Canton; niece, Ezra Hoyle; nephew, Joseph Hoyle; aunt, Alice Pilkey of Canton; aunt, Marybelle Williams and family of Canton; uncle, Jimmy Pilkington of Kentucky; cousin, DeDee Pilkey Hall; cousins, Robby Tull, Kelly Hutchon and Jimmie Eisenhower; godsons, John W. Inman and Jesse A. Inman and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
