Samuel Reece

Samuel Dee Reece, age 98, a resident of Hampton, VA since 2003 and a former resident of Canton died Friday, November 14, 2008, at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hampton, VA. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late William D. and Martha Rebecca Potts Reece. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elouise Stamey Reece, who died in 1998; four brothers; and five sisters. Sam retired from the Town of Canton after serving in many capacities. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a long-time deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was a member of the American Legion and Civitan Club. Sam was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by a son, Stanley Reece and his wife, Anna, of Smyrna, TN; a daughter, Bobbie Lockwood and her husband, Brian, of Hampton, VA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dean Huggins officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
