Samuel Swanger

March 21, 1929 — September 24, 2004

Waynesville-Samuel T. "S.T." Swanger, age 75, of Crabtree Road, died Friday, September 24, 2004 at Gaston County Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Joseph Malon and Beatrice Agnes Kirkpatrick Swanger. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carson, Mark, and Luke Swanger. He retired from Haywood County Schools in 1994 after 10 years of service as a carpenter in the maintenance department. He attended Belmont Baptist Church. He loved bluegrass music and played the fiddle. He was a member of the Hill & Country Bluegrass Band. He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June Suttles Swanger; two daughters, Janice Swanger Moffett and her husband, Neal of Gastonia, NC, and Donna Swanger of Waynesville; one son, Keith Swanger and his wife, Elizabeth of Bethel; two sisters, Eva Clark of Fines Creek, and Ora Sutton of Clyde; two brothers, Coleman Swanger of Waynesville, and Varnell Swanger of Fines Creek; three granddaughters, Amy Swanger, Christina Swanger, and Lauren Piasecki. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church. The Reverend Jimmy Moore and Reverend Neil Pressley will officiate. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Waynesville. The pallbearers will be Edwin, Mike, Austin, and Arvin Swanger, Neal Moffett, and Wayne Birchfield. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Attention: ADA Web, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.
