Canton, Samuel LaFrenzo "Tip" Riley, Sr., age 68, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Samuel L. Riley Jr. and Earlie Mae Cullins Riley. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Riley Jr. and brother, Phil Riley. He bravely served in the United States Army and later worked for Champion Paper Company. Sam was a loved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to so many throughout the community.
Sam is survived by his two daughters, Kim Riley of Richmond, Virginia and Cynthia Riley of Asheville; three stepchildren, Ryan, Damian, and Malachi; five siblings, sisters, Cheryl Tezino of Los Angeles, CA and Angelia Greenwood of Asheville; and brothers, Ricky Riley (Mary) of Upatoi, GA, Fredrick Riley (Pearl) of Clayton, NC, and Julius K. Greenwood of Waynesville; grandchildren, Travis, Elizabeth, and Jakobe; great-grandchild, Channing; along with several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend Walter Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Memorial Park with military honors to be rendered by the National Guard.
The care of Mr. Riley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
