Sandra Zander

Waynesville, Sandra L. Zander, age 68, of Eagles Nest Road, died Monday, March 2, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Brookville, Ohio and had lived in Haywood County for the past 15 years. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Neva Razor Shellabarger and was also preceded in death by her husband Dennis L. Zander, who died in 2007. Sandra went to St. Mary of the Woods College where she received her B. S. degree in nursing. She worked as a RN in various hospitals and nursing homes and was a nursing home inspector for the state of N. C. She enjoyed rug hooking, sewing, needlepoint, and was a member of the Coin Shooters Club in Maggie Valley and a was a former owner of an antique shop in Ohio. She is survived by two sons, Daniel Zander of Granville, Ohio, Michael Zander of Hudson, FL; one daughter, Kristin Akerson and her husband, Brian of Asheville, NC; one brother, Steve Shellabarger of Brookville, Ohio and 5 grandchildren; Gabriella, Lucas, Jacob, Samuel and Nicholas. No public services are planned. A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
