Gainesville, Georgia, Sara Oberia Wyatt Bryson, age 97, formely of Waynesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, loving caregivers, and her dear friend, Shirley Shockley, on July 2, 2014 at Autumn Breeze Assisted Living in Gainesville, Georgia. Born in Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James Howard and Numa McClure Wyatt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Bryson, who died in 1994; a daughter, Anita Lynne Bryson; two sisters, Fannie and Florence Wyatt; and one brother, Leonard Wyatt. Oberia lived in Haywood County until the age of 90 at which time, she moved to Georgia. She was a descendent of the early settlers of the Allens Creek Community and a member of Grandview Baptist Church. She possessed an amazing "green thumb" and was a careful business woman, a hard worker, and a caring mother and grandmother. She was a very private person but developed strong friendships during her later years. At various times during her life, she was employed at Haywood County Hospital, American Enka, and the Dayton Rubber Company. Oberia is survived by one daughter, Joy Lockman and her husband, Tom, of Young Harris, Georgia; two granddaughters, Angela Hooper McMahon and her husband, Michael, of Duluth, Georgia and Natasha Knox of Bellingham, Washington; and six great-grandchildren, Maggie, Kerry, and John McMahon and Claudia, Mariella, and Archer Lydolph. She also is survived by sisters-in-law and their families: Norma Bryson Ashe, Betty Bryson Fisher, and Ruby Bryson McCall, of Waynesville; Jane Bryson McClure of Asheville; Gin Bryson Lowe of Crescent City, Florida; brother-in-law Arnold Bryson and his family of Waynesville; and brother-in-law, Bill Shuler, of Sylva. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Jim Barker, Director of Ministry Care, Sharp Memorial Methodist Church of Young Harris, Georgia officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
