Waynesville, Sara Massie Cagle, age 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Bea and Callie Bradley Massie. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lucious Collins " L.C." Cagle, Jr. who died in 1991; an infant son, Gary Neal Cagle; four sisters, Novella Boone, Lorena Shetley, Hazel Naomi Massie and Adrene Waddell; four brothers, L.J., Rufus, Clarence and Larence Massie and a daughter, Geneva Delaney. Sara and L.C. reared their family in Manuey Cove. Many of her younger siblings lived in their home also. Sara had been a surrogate mother to many people through out her life. She retired from Wellco and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and a long time Sunday School teacher. She will also be remembered for her Christian faith and love. Sara was an excellent seamstress, quilter, enjoyed crocheting and was an avid gardener. She is survived by three daughters, Gaye Gilliland and her husband, Alvin, Audrey Morrow and her husband, Ronnie, all of Waynesville and Jeanetta Collins, and her husband, Robbie, of Rutherford College, NC; one son, Louis Cagle and his wife, Frankie, of Brandon, Florida; two sisters, Lucille Hayes of Waynesville, Mary Faye Warren of Thomasville, NC; one brother, Thomas "Pete" H. Massie of Waynesville; seven grandchildren, Russell Gilliland, Jeneé Gilliland Davis, Lauronda Morrow Teeple, Kelly Collins Wortman, Holly Collins Robinson, Louis Cagle, Jr. and Lawrence Cagle; and 13 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to any church or charity.
