Sarah Cathey

Waynesville-Sarah Jane Walker Cathey, age 86, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 24, 2007. A native and life long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Carl and Lou Lee Balentine Walker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph "Joe" Turner Cathey, Sr., who died in 1991. She received her degree in music from UNC Greensboro and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She served as music director for Waynesville Township High School. Jane was a charter member of the Richland Garden Club and was a master gardener. She was a member of the Friends of the Library Book Club, the Water Color Society, and served on the Board of Directors at Haywood Vocational Opportunities. She is survived by one daughter, Katy Cathey Bolton and her husband, Bill, of Waynesville; three sons, Joe T. Cathey, Jr., Clayton Cathey and his wife, Grace, all of Waynesville, and Sam Cathey and his wife, Susan, of Chattanooga, TN; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Private interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Boyd Medford, Charlie Hannah, J.R. Caldwell, Fred Hyatt, Dr. Phil Medford, Dr. Jack Dickerson, Boyd and Mitch Rathbone. Honorary pallbearers will be Linton Palmer and Charlie Balentine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Haywood County Public Library, 678 South Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or First Baptist Church of Waynesville, P.O.
