Sarah Mcmahan

Maggie Valley, Sarah Setzer McMahan, age 85, of Evans Cove Road, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Effie Evans Setzer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McMahan, who died in 2010; her daughter, Karen June McMahan; four sisters, Bessie Grooms, Gertrude Sheehan, Mildred Nelson, and Lucy Ward; and one brother, Verlin Setzer. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and enjoyed her church work and gardening, and also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Donna McMahan Rathbone of Maggie Valley; one son, Dale McMahan and his wife, Wanda, also of Maggie Valley; three sisters, Opal Mills and Jane Cable, both of Maggie Valley and Ruth Russell of the Bethel Community; four grandchildren, Lynn Wyatt, Myra Jane McMahan (Tim Shultz), Brooke Rathbone (Michael Rich), and Ondrea Murphy (Chad); six great grandchildren, Blake Rathbone, Dennis Shultz, Hunter Murphy, Bo and Hannah Wyatt, Maddie Rich; and one great-great-grandson, Liam Ponder. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Millard Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Setzer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times, at the home.
