Sarah Sutton

Clyde, Sarah Johnson Sutton, age 79 died Friday, December 24, 2010 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. She was a native of Buncombe County, but had lived in Haywood County since 1965. Born on January 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Madeline Gudger Johnson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Carver in 2010. Mrs. Sutton was a 1948 graduate of Lee Edwards High School, a 1951 graduate of Memorial Mission School of Nursing and 1984 graduate of St. Joseph's College in Maine. She worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Mission and St. Joseph's Hospitals, followed by work as an industrial health nurse at Square D in Asheville and Champion International in Canton. Following her retirement as head nurse at Champion International, she worked as a school host at Biltmore House and Gardens. She served as the volunteer 4H leader for the Iron-Duff Busy Bees 4H Club for many years and was delighted when her members won local, district, state and national honors. She was the NC State Outstanding Volunteer in 1978. She enjoyed volunteering, life-long learning, and knitting. She is survived by her husband, Roy H. Sutton of Clyde; a daughter, Sally Williard of Winston-Salem and friend John Read; a son, Kim Sutton of Clyde; a son, Kevin Sutton, his wife, Angel and their daughter, Skylar of Clyde; a sister, Peggy J. Griffin of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Kitty Crain will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. The family would like to thank Nancy King and the caregivers from Care Partners of Asheville who helped Mr. Sutton during the last years of Mrs. Sutton's life.
